Husband arrested for setting his wife on fire in Dailekh

(updated) A woman from Kuikana in Narayan municipality-1 has been severely injured after being set on fire by her husband on Wednesday afternoon during a dispute between the two. Raju Nepali doused kerosene over his wife Anisha's body and set her on fire, severely injuring her. The perpetrator, Raju, who was on the run immediately after the incident was arrested by the police from the jungle at Kuikana where he was found hiding. DSP Bir Bahadur Oli of District Police Office Dailekh informed that the victim was sent to the district hospital for a medical check-up, while the arrested was being held in the custody for further investigation. According to acting chief of district health office, Nirmal Rasaili, 45% of the victim's body was burnt. She was referred to Nepal Medical college after she could not be treated at the district. 

Update---Anisha Nepali, a burn victim who had been undergoing treatment at the Tribhuwan International Teaching Hospital (TUTH), died on Monday.  19-year-old Anisha was allegedly set on fire by her 22-year-old husband, Raju Nepali on April 27 at the couple's house in Dailekh following a minor quarrel between them. According to the victim, her husband poured kerosene on her twice before setting her on fire. After the incident, she was rushed to Kathmandu for treatment. According to TUTH Burn Unit in-charge, Archana Ranjit, Anisha started vomiting before noon and expressed her uneasiness after having light food. "We put her on oxygen after she expressed uneasiness and provided her some grapes as per her wish. She stopped vomiting after a few hours but was dead by 4:30," she informed. The hospital will carry out a post-mortem on her body on Tuesday. On the other hand, her husband has been denying all charges leveled by his wife, according to the District Police Office in Dailekh. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bir Bahadur Oli told Republica that will continue the investigations into the incident. "Although the suspect has been denying charges, we have already registered a murder case against him," informed Oli. He added that the accused could be sentenced to up to 20 years jail term and his property could be confiscated. The duo got married two years ago and they have an 11-month-old son. She had been undergoing treatment with the financial support of Burn Violence Survivors (BVS).
