Karnali region hit hard by Chand-led Maoists' Strike

2016-06-03

Karnali, Humla, Kharpunath

The strike called by CPN-Maoist under Netra Bikram Chand has affected normal life in the Karnali region. According to Bheri-Karnali 'autonomous' region Chief Chandra Bir Tiruwa Rawikaran, the protest is being held to raise voices against corruption, black market and conflicts invited by the government. He further added that the government hasn't batted an eye on this critical situation and is still using the past economic blockade as an excuse. The increasing black market has been intolerable to adapt and has certainly crossed the line. "We have called for Nepal Bandh (general strike) to protest and warn everybody against the corruption which takes place during such times." Humla, Mugu, Kalikot and Jumla districts have been affected by the Bandha. "New development projects to be carried out in the village or rural areas should be immune to corruption and the party would be taking strict action to any intentional corruption activity in the coming days," he said. The party has further claimed that if the corruption and black market aren't controlled soon, they will be taking strict action and can also wage a war against the government. Buses on the Karnali highway have kept off the road due to the Bandha. Hotels and shops are closed right from the morning along with schools and private organizations.
