Locals blocked a section of East-West highway in Ratnanagar-10 on Monday afternoon, after the death of a student from being run over by a Bolero. To remove the blockade, police fired two rounds of tear gas.
Vehicular movement resumed on Monday at 2 pm. 15-year-old Basanta Thapa, a grade 8 student of Lyceum International Model School was hit by the Bolero bearing plate number Na 4 Cha 5007. Injured Thapa died during his treatment at Chitwan Medical College.
After the firing of tear gas, around 300 demonstrators were displaced.
According to the Dr. Basanta Adhikari , School's Principal, on his return from school for lunch, Thapa was hit by Bolero. Eight people who arrived at the spot were taken in control by Area Police Office, Tandi. To avoid the chaotic situation they were taken in control, said DSP Dayanidhi Gyawali. Immediately after the local demonstrators were taken in control, students of Lyceum International Model School started protesting.
Police arrested the driver and took the vehicle under control.
