The Valley’s Development Authority, the authority under the Ministry of Urban Development forcibly deployed seven dozers to build the 265-meter road from Balaju Bypass to the Mahendra park area violating the Supreme Court order since November 7. The people of Balaju are ready to give land accordingly but their demand is to leave seven meters on the right and seven meters on the left from the road center.
On March 21, 2017, the Supreme Court had ordered not to allow the petitioners to enter the house yard, demolish any unauthorized occupants or demolish them till the issue is resolved. The width of the branch road should be 14 meters as per the construction standards 2007 in the municipalities and urban areas of Kathmandu Valley.
After the Supreme Court's order was not implemented, the people of Balaju filed a contempt of court petition against Kathmandu Valley Road Expansion Project, Kathmandu Valley Development Authority, Kathmandu District Commissioner's Office, Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Metropolitan Police of Balaju.
Meanwhile, the Kathmandu District Commissioner's Office of the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority stated that only the sidewalk is being constructed on the east side of the Balaju bypass road section.
