Students of Midwestern University in Birendranagar, Surkhet have burned the effigy of the Vice-Chancellor Nanda Bahadur Singh at the university premises on January 11 accusing him of directing the police to repress the students who went to handover a memorandum to Singh on January 10. The memorandum consisted of the demand for the reduction of fees for Hydro Engineering taught during the Corona pandemic. The students also burnt tyres at the University premises.
The student claimed that the police used batons, tear gas and aerial fire on the protesting students after the vice-chancellor refused to understand the memorandum. Some students have been injured in the incident.
