Police Refuse to Register FIR on Adhikari Incident

The police have refused to register the FIR filed by the relatives of Dinesh Adhikari aka Chari, 28, of Tripureshwar VDC-6, Dhading on August 12. Adhikari was killed in police shooting which they claim as being a retaliatory firing on August 6. The relatives were turned back when they went to Hanumandhoka police range to file the FIR. It asked them to go to police office at Ranipokhari, the elder brother of the deceased, Dhruba Adhikari said. “We were not allowed to enter the gate. When we called DSP Ramesh Kumar Basnet, he told us to go to Ranipokhari station”, Dhruba said adding they were turned back from there too by the police citing the instruction from ‘above’. The relatives approached District Administration Office on August 12 where too, the CDO Basant Raj Gautam rejected their call for investigation of the case by saying that the case could not be handled there. Adhikari’s relatives accused Gautam of not willing to listen to them first before rejecting their request. Police claim that he was shot after he fired at the police team at Bhimdhugna of Kathmandu while Adhikari’s relatives claimed that he was killed in custody. Bibek Dh
