A Clash between Police and protester leaves at least 20 Injured in Bara

The demonstration entering the 8th day organized to protest the government's decision to retract on the decision to set up Land Survey and Land Revenue Office in Simara turned violent on February 22 leaving at least 20 injured. All the injured have sustained hand, leg, and head injuries. Lathi charge and teargas of the Police injured 12 people including Nasim Hussain, 35, of Gadimai Municipality and Ishwar Thapalliya, 28, of ward number 3 of the same VDC. They have serious head injuries and were being treated at Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital, Birgunj. Eight policemen including Inspector Kumar Bikram Malla, 38, were also injured in the clash. The clash ensued when the demonstrators tried to obstruct the East-West Highway to hold a corner meeting. Police fired over 100 shells of teargas. They torched police bits of Nepal Police and Traffic police. Elderly Bindaram Ray Yadav, 70, and his son Raj Kumar Yadav, 36, who were coming from Khesariyar VDC-8 were injured. An ambulance carrying them came under attack by the agitator in which the father and son were injured.
