Tatopani tense over missing worker

Tatopani checkpoint remains tense on Saturday following sporadic clashes between locals and armed police force over the whereabouts of a worker. Police had arrested 21-year-old Kumar Tamang in accuse of LPG cylinder smuggling to China. He has been missing for the last four days. Relatives and locals clashed with police demanding Tamang's whereabouts. One police constable was injured in the incident. The police force has been mobilized after the locals threatened to padlock Tatopani Revenue Office. "We are concerned about Tamang's whereabouts as police have not been able to make him public yet," a local businessman in a telephone conversation said, "We doubt his safety." However, police said that Tamang fled away from the scene after being arrested. "He escaped from our clutches after being arrested. Even we are searching him," SP Bidur Gurung, chief of armed police border security said.
