Madhes, Rautahat, Rajdevi

Around four dozen gunshots were fired towards Nepal from across the border near Belbichuwa-based Armed Police Force ( APF ) camp in Gaur, Rautahat district on Monday. The incident occurred as the locals of Belbichuwa, which lies five km east of district headquarters Gaur, were hurling stones at the APF base camp. APF SP Bidur Khatiwada informed some 50 rounds of bullets were fired from 200 meters south of Nepali border. Police fired three shots into the air and lobbed some tear gas shells to contain the situation, said Khatiwada.

Six people have been injured in the police action. Chief District Officer Madan Bhujel said that they immediately informed their Indian counterpart about the incident. The perpetrators fled the scene after the Indian border security personnel intensified patrolling at the border, he said. “The people who fired at Nepali side and the reason behind are unknown yet,” CDO Bhujel said. He added police fired few shots in retaliation after dozens of shots were fired, targeting the Belbichuwa-based AFP camp and police station. गौ
