DoFE staff, manpower agents booked

The Commission for the Investigation of the Abuse of Authority on Friday filed chargesheets against 33 people, including an under secretary at the Department of Foreign Employment, at the Special Court for acquiring labour permits from different countries by submitting fake documents. CIAA’s long investigation found that the illegally corrected documents were used to acquire labour permits from different countries. The CIAA had investigated documents of 102 manpower companies between February 24 and July 10 in 2014. The anti-graft body has also written to the Department of Foreign Employment about the findings of their investigation. The CIAA has filed cases against 12 civil servants, including under-secretary Ramji Prasad Baral, section officers Siddha Raj Chataut, Gambhir Singh Bista, Prithu Raj Tiwari, Tirtha Raj Poudel, Laxman Prasad Shrestha, Damodar Dahal, Jayaram Nepal, non-gazette first class officers Kabiraj Upadhyay, Padam Bahadur Shahi and translators Sadare Aalam and Abdul Sabur. The CIAA has sought Rs 33,73,500 as fine from the 33 people who are facing the charge. According to a press statement issued by the CIAA, the anti-graft body had initiated the investigation following complaints from those seeking job at different countries after they did not get the assured jobs. DoFE staff were found to have approved the fake documents after receiving bribes.
