Six people go missing daily from Kathmandu valley

48 years old Purna Devi Shahi who left home last Tuesday to go to Dakshinkali hasn't returned home yet. Though the complaint was filed in the police for her search, police haven't found her. The statistics from the police show that six people disappear from the capital every day. Majority of the disappeared are never uncovered. According to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner's Office, most of the disappeared are women. The number of disappeared girls is second highest followed by the number of disappeared boys. Statistics show that only a few of the disappeared are found. According to the Commissioner's office, 2,256 people disappeared from Kathmandu valley in fiscal year 071-72. Among them, the majority were female. Out of the total disappeared, 1,265 were women, 430 were girls and 444 were boys. Within the period, 117 men disappeared. Statistics show that only 705 among the disappeared were found. It is only 31.25% of the total number.
