Police deployed in the Nepal-India border area in Rautahat district on Sunday arrested four persons in possession of two automatic pistols.
The arrestees include a minor.
A special team jointly deployed from the Armed Police Force Pathalaiya Office and APF Border Out Post in Khap arrested them from Bankul of Rautahat.
The arrestees have been identified as Rakesh Kumar Singh (26), Sabindra Patel (14), Rakesh Patel (32), and Kamalesh Prasad Patel (33) from Rampur Khap VDC of the district.
Parading the suspects amid a press conference at the Rautahat-based APF Border Security Office today, DSP Nirmal Khadka said they were apprehended by police personnel, who pretended to be individuals wishing to buy the arms.
The APF had deployed the special team with an objective to control cross-border criminal activities including abduction.
But, the team was tipped off that Rakesh Patel was involved in illegal transactions of arms and ammunition. He has been identified as the leader of the gang. The police investigation also found that the suspects were involved in a bank robbery case in Garuda of the district some years ago, according to DSP Khadka.
The APF has handed over the suspects to Nepal Police for further investigation and action.
