Woman beaten for seeking account details of VDC

Ramsakhi Devi Sah, a local leader has been assaulted by a group for seeking accounting details into the budget allocated for Samanpur VDC. Demanding proper investigation into the incident and punishment against the alleged attackers the woman's family have lodged complaint at the National Human Rights Commission. Ram Sakhi Devi Sah, chairwoman of a women empowerment group at the village, was seriously injured after being attacked by a group led by the VDC secretary Nagendra Yadav and assistant accountant Kameshwor during a meeting held on August 2. The victim's son Ashok lamented that her mother was assaulted by responsible government employees themselves for seeking transparency and accountability into VDC budgets. The victim's family have lodged a complaint at NHRC national office for investigation. NHRC national office delegated the task of investigation into the incident to it's Janakpur office. Police meanwhile, arrested 4 persons including the vdc secretary and assistant accountant who allegedly led the attack. DSP Nabin Krishna Bhandari of DPO informed that the arrested were being prosecuted under public offense charge.
