Karnali, Jajarkot, Bheri

There is a problem of overcrowding and detention in Jajarkot District Jail. Although the prison has a capacity of only 10 inmates, it is now overcrowded with 44 inmates. Jailer Tej Bikram Shah informed that the problem arose after a total of 44 prisoners including 36 women and seven others were detained. As the number of prisoners is increasing day by day and the physical infrastructure is deteriorating, they are facing problems of management and sleeping space. As the number of prisoners has increased, there has been a problem in their accommodation and food. Jailer Shah said that they have been providing health treatment to the prisoners from time to time keeping in mind the problems of the prisoners. Similarly, it has been said that it is difficult to recommend some chronically ill and sick prisoners from the prison to a well-equipped hospital. Jailer Shah said that no hearing has been held so far despite repeated notifications to the concerned authorities as there is no juvenile correctional facility. At present, inmates are serving their sentences in the prison for duty killing, robbery, rape, drugs and polygamy.
