Gaur Rice Mills Land Protection Struggle Committee today staged a protest rally against attempts by the land mafia to sell land belonging to the mills in Gaur. Some political parties, journalists, civil society members and local people participated in the rally before submitting a memorandum to Rautahat CDO Narhari Baral. The locals reportedly took to the street protesting against the land mafia, who have been resorting to underhanded means to sell the land belonging to the mills. The mills, which had been established in 1946, had pulled down its shutter in 1988. Since then, the land was used for various activities, such as political programmes, sports, fairs and other events. The mill stands on five bigaha, 19 kattha and 15 dhur land. The Cabinet had earlier decided to seize the land during former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal's premiership. However, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development had prepared to hand over the land to Gaur Municipality. Former executive officer Sunil Prasad Yadav of the municipality and former CDO Madan Bhujel had written a letter to the local development ministry to allocate Rs 140 million for land seizure. सार्वजनिक रुपमा भोग चलन हुँदै आएको गौर नगरपालिका वडा नं. ५ स्थित राईसमिल रहेको जग्गामा नगरपालिकाको स्वामित्वमा कायम गरिनु पर्ने माग गर्दै आइतबार स्थानीय बासिन्दाले गौरमा प्रदर्शन गरेका छन् । उनीहरुले गौर राईसमिलको ५ विगहा १९ कठ्ठा १५ धुर जग्गा संरक्षण समिति बनाएर भु–माफियाबाट जग्गा बचाउ अभियानमा जुटेका हुन् । सार्वजनिक जग्गालाई भुमाफियाले फर्जी कागजात तयार पारी आफ्नो नाममा कायम गराउन षडयन्त्र गरिरहेकोले त्यसलाई विफल पार्न स्थानीय बासिन्दा प्रदर्शनमा उत्रेका हुन् । लामो समयदेखि उक्त जग्गा सार्वजनिक रुपमै भोगचल हुँदै आएको स्थानीयले बताएका छन । स्थानियले विपी चोकबाट सुरु भएको जुलुश नगरको विभिन्न भागको परिक्रमा पश्चात जिल्ला प्रशासन कार्यालयमा पुगेर सम्पन्न भएको थियो । जुलुश पश्चात माग समेटिएको ज्ञापनपत्र प्रमुख जिल्ला अधिकारी नरहरी बराललाई हस्तान्तरण गर्दै भूमाफियाको चलखेललाई निस्तेज पार्न आवश्यक पहल गरीदिन स्थानीयले माग गरेका थिए । उनीहरुले जिल्ला प्रशासन कार्यालय मार्फत ज्ञापनपत्रको बोधार्थ प्रधानमन्त्री तथा मन्त्रिपरिषदको कार्यालय सिंहदरबार, गृह मन्त्रालय, संघिय मामिला तथा स्थानीय विकास मन्त्रालयलाई पनि पठाएका छन् ।
