Employees at the local bodies--district development committee, municipality and VDC--halted works in various districts on Sunday.
The service seekers were deprived of government services in Sindhupalchok, Syangja, Morang, Nawalparasi, Pyuthan, Salyan, among other districts, as the local level employees remained idle to mount pressure on the government to meet their demands.
The agitating employees, who have been staging peaceful protest for the past week, said they were forced to halt office works as the authorities concerned paid no heed to their demands.
The local bodies employees have been demanding to ensure job security by integrating them in civil service.
The agitating employees staged a sit-in in front of the District Development Office. They also submitted memorandums to the Local Development Minister Hitraj Pandey through the local development officer. They warned of continued protests unless the government addressed their demands.
“It is still uncertain to manage the employees at local bodies even after the Local Level Restructuring Commission submitted its report to the government,” said Anirudra Nepal, a protester from Sindhupalchok.
He said they were compelled to launch the protest as the Local Development Ministry treated the local body employees as “second grade workers”.
The protesting employees in Syangja have threatened to stop civil servants from entering their offices and stop vehicles they use from plying the streets from Monday.
