Locals have closed down Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, in protest, after two-thirds majority of the provincial assembly passed Godawari Municipality of Kailali as the permanent capital of Province 7. Market area in the sub-metropolis has remained completely shut down since the early morning and transportation has also been obstructed. Protesters have not even allowed two-wheelers or electric riskshaws to operate on the city streets. Protesters have taken to the streets and have forced the closure of few shops that had opened for business in the morning. Locals also took out a motorcycle rally opposing the establishment of Godawari as permanent capital of Province 7. The locals lamented that province capital was shifted without any prior consultations with the people of Dhangadhi, which was the temporary capital of the province. According to mayor of the sub-metropolis, Nripa Bahadur Wada, Dhangadhi denizens were protesting more against the ways of the government than just shifting of the capital. Locals had begun the protest from September 26 demanding that the temporary capital Dhangadhi be maintained as the permanent capital of the province. A proposal — which sought to make Godawari Municipality the permanent province capital of Province 7 and ‘Sudurpashchim’ the province’s name — was passed in the provincial assembly on Friday with two-thirds majority. The area chosen for the new capital is located around 20 kilometres north of Dhangadhi. Likewise, protests have also continued in Dipayal of Doti, where locals for a long time had been demanding that the municipality be given the title of province capital. प्रदेश ७ को स्थायी राजधानी र नामाङकनको विरोधमा बिहिबार शुरु भएको अनिश्चितकालिन धनगढी बन्द आज पनि जारी छ । प्रदेश सरकारले जनताको सुझाव र प्रतिपक्षको उपस्थिती विना निर्णय गरेको भन्दै आज पनि धनगढी बन्दलाई निरन्तरता दिइएको हो । बन्दका कारण बिहानैदेखि धनगढी बजार पूर्ण बन्द छ भने शैक्षिक सस्था पनि खुलेका छैनन् । विगतमा बजारमा फाट्टफुट्ट मोटरसाइकल चलेपनि आजदेखि भने सवारी साधन ठप्प छ । बन्दकर्ताहरुले आज बिहान धनगढीको मुख्यबजारमा रहेको प्रदेश सभा भवन अगाडी टायर बालेर नाराबाजी गर्दै प्रदर्शन गरेका थिए । प्रदेशको स्थायी राजधानी र नामाङ्कन गर्न गठित विशेष सुझाव समितिले मंगलबार संसदमा प्रदेशको नाम ‘सुदूरपश्चिम प्रदेश’ र प्रादेशिक राजधानी कैलालीको गोदावरी नगरपालिका ४ स्थित तेघरीमा राख्न सुझावसहितको प्रतिवेदन पेश गरेपछि धनगढीवासीले असहमति जनाउदै धनगढी वन्दको आवहन गरेका हुन् । दुइतिहाइको दम्भमा निरंकुशतन्त्र लाद्न खोजेको बन्दै आज पनि धनगढी बन्द गरिएको र प्रतिपक्ष बिना गरिएको एकलौटी निर्णयका विरुद्धको बन्दमा साथ दिन बन्दका संयोजक हरि रेग्मीले अनुरोध गरेका छन् । ‘सुनियोजित वन फँडानी गरेर भौतिक संरचना बनाउनु गलत हो । यसमा प्रदेश ७ का बासिन्दाको असहमति रहेकोले बाध्य भएर बन्द गरेका हौ’ नागरिक समाजका अगुवा समेत रहेका संयोजक रेग्मीले बताए । उनले केही नेताहरुले वन तस्कर र भू–माफियासँग साठगाठ गरी वनक्षेत्र सिध्याउँने मनसायले प्रादेशिक राजधानी तेघरीमा सिफारिस गरिएको आरोप लगाए । सुदूर भनेर चिनिने सुदूरपश्चिमलाई फेरि पनि त्यहिँ नाम सिफारिस गर्नु न्यायोचित नभएको आन्दोलनमा सहभागी धनगढी उपमहानगरपालिकाकाबासी बताउँछन् ।
