Flood victims from Barbardiya Municipality staged a demonstration before the municipality office on Sunday demanding the compensation promised to them by the government. The flood victims who were displaced due to a flood around 5 years ago demanded additional financial support for rehabilitation.
Chairpersons of the Flood Victim Struggle Committee Ranjana Tharu submitted a memorandum to to Municipality Chairperson Durga Bahadur Tharu.
Chairperson Durga Bahadur said that the municipality with coordinate and seek budget from Federal Government as the agreement was held with the Federal Government.
Due to the flood of 2071 B.S. district's 3,859 households were fully destroyed and 13,000 households were partially affected by it. Protesters are demanding that victims who are enlisted should be provided with ID card, loan with minimum interest and grant of 3 lakhs.
Flood Victim Struggling Committee's President Bintiram Tharu warned to strengthen the strike if their demands are not addressed.
