Local residents affected by the ‘Galchi-Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubesi-Rasuwagadhi’ road have called for a shutdown of Nuwakot district today, demanding compensation.
Locals from Pipaltar to Dhunge of Nuwakot and affected by the road expansion work have been agitating since the past few days, calling for rightful compensation.
As a result, long and short distance route public transport service has been affected, with travelers being left stranded. The market, educational institutions, industry and factories also remain closed.
The banda enforcers have been staging protests on the road since early morning. This is part of our phase-wise struggle and further programmes of protest will be introduced if the demands are not met, said the committee coordinator Lilanath Neupane.
However, chief of the road project, Subodh Kumar Devkota said compensation for the land from Pipaltar to Dhunge cannot be provided for lack of legislation. The border determination of the Pasang Lhamu highway was carried out in 1997 and hence compensation was not justifiable, he added.
