Province 1, Morang, Biratnagar
The local administration on Monday issued a prohibitory order in Morang after the area became tense due to the protest over the death of an 11-year-old girl in a truck accident.
Laxmi Dhakal of Haraicha Municipality was fatally hit by a tipper (Na 33 Kha 3355) heading to Biratnagar this morning. Following the incident, irate locals torched seven tippers including the one which mowed down the girl.
Though a fire engine reached the incident site to contain the fire, it could not complete its work due to the obstruction of locals.
The local administration clamped curfew in Sukuna Bazaar in the East, Budhabar Bazaar in the West, Biratchok in the North and Belepur area in the South after the police could not take the situation under control.
Defying the prohibitory order, locals have been staging demonstrations by keeping the child’s body on the road.
Despite the repeated demand from the locals to ban the tippers in the area, the local level has taken the issue seriously. The demand of the locals has fallen on deaf ears as most of the elected representatives own crusher industry and tippers.
