Police in Dhading district on Monday night arrested a man on the charge of murder attempt on his own daughter in Nilakantha Municipality-14 of Dhading district.
The arrested has been identified as Balaram Wasti, permanent resident of Ambote Tole in Dhunwankot area of the Municipality.
Police said, Balaram attacked his 14-year-old daughter Sushmita Wasti with a khurpa, a bagging hook that is larger and similar to a sickle, and injured her head.
On Monday afternoon, at around 5:30 the girl along with her mother Sarita had reached home from Hetauda sub-metropolis of Makawanpur district where she had been studying and living with. According to witnesses, later at 7:30, when Balaram arrived home after collecting fodder, the trio had disputed over citizenship for the teenager girl. In the dispute, Balaram charged his wife who ran away while his daughter unfortunately fell down from the edge of the courtyard. The man then took the chance to strike on her head with the khurpa he had used for cutting grasses.
A neighbour Prakash Wasti said that the girl had inflicted deep cut on her head that was excessively bleeding. With the help of locals, she was rushed to local health post from where she was referred to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu the same night.
It has been learnt that Balaram had been living and working in Hetauda after secretly marrying Sarita. He has also two sons and a daughter from his first wife who died about 10 years ago.
Police informed that Balaram had returned his home village and had asked his daughter Sushmita to come home to apply for citizenship certificate.
