21-year-old Sangam Rai, a permanent resident of Chulachuli Rural Municipality-6, who had been living in Urlabari of Morang district raped a 21-year-old Dalit girl on July 5. Rai established acquaintances with the girl through Facebook and they had exchanged the mobile number through Facebook as well, according to police.
Rai raped her by cajoling her into a bush at 9 pm in the evening, the police said referencing their preliminary investigation. The locals and the police deployed from Area Police Office Urlabari rescued the injured girl. The victim is undergoing treatment in Urlabari. The victim is mentally traumatized by the event. Police arrested the absconding perpetrator on July 7.
