The residents of Kalaiya Sub-metropolis ward 9 protested showing concerns over the possibility of submersion of the village if proper drainage was not built, during the construction of the postal highway. They burnt tires in different sections of the Kaliya-Bariarpur road section from 1 pm to 5 pm on July 13.
According to the locals, the village was submerged due to a lack of drainage during the construction of the Rampur section of in Birgunj-Bariarpur road section. 746 households in the ward are affected due to the lack of drainage, Akhtar Ansari, the ward chairperson of Kalaiya Sub-metropolis-9 said. Kaliya Sub-metropolitan city chief Rajesh Rai Yadav, MP Rambabu Yadav, Member of the House of Assembly Paras Sah assured the protestors that the necessary work would be started to manage the flood of Tangerhar river.
