Police in Saptari have made public a youth arrested for defrauding women of millions of rupees and committing sexual abuse against them.
Santosh Kumar Yadav, 29, of Sitapur in Agnisair Krishnasawaran Rural Municipality-2 of Saptari was paraded at a press conference at Kanchanpur Area Police Office today.
He had escaped from the police after he was convicted of rape and fraud by Morang District Court last year, but was again arrested from his rented apartment in Budhiganga Municipality-3, Morang, last night.
Police had received a tip-off about him.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Makendra Kumar Mishra, he is learnt to have been involved in half-a-dozen rape cases, robbery and fraud amounting to millions of rupees. “He would find the number of girls from Emo, a software for free video calls and text messages, and contact them by identifying himself as the manger of some job portal. He’d then call them with assurances of good jobs in some bank or financial institutions and rape and rob them once they reached his home,” said the DSP.
Further, the police officer informed that some victims had reached out to the police with evidence of rape and robbery.
“As per our investigation, it has been found that the self-styled manager of rojgari.com had sexually abused more than half-a-dozen girls and defrauded them of the cash they had and jewellery,” Mishra said.
Police have seized eight mobile sets, one khukuri, four cheque books of different banks, one visa card, appointment letters in different names, gold and silver jewellery and some 33,000 rupees in cash.
