Workers stage a sit-in at Unilever, the multinational industry in Basamadi, Hetauda. Ganga Soap workers in the Hetauda Industrial Area have staged a sit-in in Unilever Basamadi, stating that they have closed the unilateral industries without alternative arrangements for workers.
Unilever has unilaterally terminated its contract with Ganga Soap, which was producing soap and shampoo of Unilever's brand. workers in the industry have been demanding that they should be relocated or compensated if the production of Ganga Soap is done by Unilever.
About 50 workers and employees have been unemployed in Ganga Soap, which has been closed since three months. Labor unit president Purna Subedi said the protest was done before also but no conclusion was drawn so workers staged a sit-in at the gate of Unilever Nepal.
Ganga Soap is the only brand of its products, says Unilever Nepal, saying that they cannot take responsibility of the workers employed and cannot compensate them.
Makwanpur police took control over the labors who was sitting in the premises at the industrial gate at 8 am. Workers who have been agitating for the operation of the industry and demanded guarantee of their employment have complained that they have been working for the last ten years and have been complaining of losing their job without compensation.
Indira Bahadur Baniya, the president of Nepali Congress Makwanpur and the leader of state No. 3 major opposition party has been the main investor in Ganga Soap.
