On July 30, a strike was organized in Banke demanding the right to get daughters married off at the age of 16 as the government had assigned a legal age of marriage as 20 years. The women from the Madhesi community organized the strike and also picketed the sub metropolitan office in Nepalgunj. Majority of participant in the strike were married women. According to the Madhesi community, the law developed by the government regarding the eligible for girls to get married which is 20 years does not match with the Madhesi culture and tradition.
