Husband Govinda Shah and mother-in-law Jasodha Devi have physically assaulted Ranju Devi of Birjung metropolitan city-10 for not bringing enough dowry. On September 13, Ramesh Shah, a brother of Ranju filed a complaint of domestic violence against two in-laws.
The in-laws of Ranju had demanded a motorcycle, fridge, and washing machine for dowry. They gave physical and mental torture to Ranju after Ranju informed them that her family could not afford to give them additional dowry. During the marriage in 2005, Ranju's family had given two and a half lakh rupees and jewelry as dowry.
The victim is undergoing treatment at Narayani Hospital.
