Locals in Gaira Bazar protest after a person died from police beatings in Ghateswor police station, Doti. The relatives of the deceased blocked the transport service by burning tires on the roads of Gaira bazar. Due to the protests, many vehicles traveling from the mountain region to Terai were stranded on the road.
Police had arrested 21-year-old Ganesh Pali, a jeep driver for drunk driving. According to the District Police Office, Ganesh, who was under the police control, went to the restroom where he consumed two capsules and later died on the way to the sub-regional hospital, Dadeldhura. He added, "there is no reason for the police to kill Ganesh and he died on his own".
The father of the deceased, Tej Bahadur Pali, alleged that his son died of beating from two police personnel Shankar Khadka and Deepak Sant. An investigation committee was formed to get nmore information on Ganesh's death after the family accused the police personnel of beating their son to death. The relatives of the deceased filed a complaint at the District Police Office, Doti against the two police personnel.
The locals in gaira bazar have warned against shutting down Doti indefinitely if no action isn taken against the perpetrators.
