Locals have protested against the plan of Mechinagar Municipality to construct a landfill site for waste management on the land of Adarsh ​​Higher Secondary School at Mechinagar-8. Locals have formally organized to protest the decesion and are demanding the construction of of Agriculgural University in the land citing the land's fertileness. Mechinagar Ward No. 3, 5, 8 and Budwashanti rural municipality Ward No. 5 has also formed a Sanitary Landfill Site Struggle Committee. The committee has organized a press conference at Malami Rest House of Ninda Ghat in Mechinagar-3 on Saturday to protest against the work of the municipality. 

Mechinagar has informed that Rs. 30 million has already been received from the donor body for the construction of the landfill site in the municipality. The municipality has stated that it will cost Rs. 130 million to complete the project.
