Minor dies in Birgunj due to lack of treatment

On August 11, nine-year-old Sushil Kumar Shah of Sukhipatra in Baragadhi-2, Bara who was suffering from general fever, diarrhoea and vomiting, died at the National Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Birgunj due to lack of treatment.

The father of the deceased, Umesh Shah and brother-in-law Upendra Shah took him to the National Medical College on the morning of August 9, but the ICU was not empty and doctors advised him to go to Terai Hospital.

Terai Hospital, LS Neuro Hospital, Bhavani Hospital and Narayani Hospital refused to admit the child saying that the ICU is not empty. Upendra Shah said that National college ordered them to buy two sets of PPE for the treatment of the patient but the doctor arrived only around 8 pm and prescribed some medicine. Meanwhile, Basrudin Ansari, managing director of the teaching hospital, said that the child died while undergoing treatment.
