The winner of two gold medals in the 8th National Sports Competition Chandrakala Lamgade was beaten up in Jhapa. Durga Bahadur Shrestha (a former Army Officer) and his wife Bishnu Shrestha of Mechinagar 13 physically assaulted Lamgade. Former military Shrestha along with his wife physically battered Rajan Darji at 8 pm on Monday night. Rajan Darji stayed in 14 days of quarantine 3 months ago as he was found to be in contact with Nima Sherpa who travelled from a different city. Rajan was released after his PCR test came negative.

According to Nirmala Pariyar the Executive Member of Michinagar, Shrestha had always abused Rajan since then. Shrestha has been going around warning people infected with corona to stay away from his house. He has been using abusive and derogatory caste-based discriminatory language since Rajan came out of quarantine. On Monday night Shrestha went to the extreme by physically assaulting Rajan. Lamgade who was also 7 months pregnant at that time was injured and was rushed to Manakamana Hospital and then was referred to B&C hospital that night. Meanwhile, Lamgade’s husband lodged a complaint against Shrestha couple at the Area Police Office, Dhulabari and the Police Inspector Chaudhary said that the legal procedure and investigation are underway.
