2020-09-26

Karnali, Jumla, Patrasi, Ward 3

In Jumla, women are taken home in the style of abduction and forced into sexual intercourse and then assured by promises of marriage. Some readily accept the 'injustice' inflicted on them, while others rebel. One of the rebellious women is 19-year-old Sapna Bohora (anonymous).

She was returning home on September 26 evening from Chhum village of Patarasi Rural Municipality-3 then Dil Bahadur Bohora from a neighboring village with a group of 5-6 people tried to drag her home, she resisted but could not. A group of youths tried to catch her nephew who was walking with her but were unsuccessful.

She ran away and cried for help but they still forcibly tried to take her. Fearing that the villagers would find out about the incident, she was hurriedly taken across the river by the group. At 8 pm, Dil Bahadur's team took her to the village and kept her in another person's house. The next day, Sapna and Dil Bahadur were detained for the whole day inside another person's house.Three days later, sapana was forcibly sent to Dil Bahadur's house. She tried to run away several times but was unsuccessful.

About four months ago, a young man from Mahari village in Patarasi Rural Municipality-3 of Jumla district was forcibly married a young girl. Two months later, a young man from Patarasi-2 Talfi forcibly married a young woman from Huri village.
