Farmers protest by throwing tomatoes on the road in West Nawalparasi

2021-02-16

Farmers of Bardaghat in West Nawalparasi protested by throwing tomatoes on the road on February 16 as the locally grown vegetables are facing stiff competition in the local market with the imported vegetables from India.

They started agitation after their attempt to hand over the memorandum was neglected by the mayor of the Municipality. They also threw tomatoes at the municipal gate.

The local vegetables are becoming a hard sell in the local market even when the farmers kept the price range same. Indian farmers have been getting concessions on fertilizers and equipment from the government, which has made Indian agricultural produce cheaper. As a result, vegetables from India are being sold in the local market.
