Tension arose between Nepali labourers and managers of the Chinese Sino-Hydro corporation at Package no. 2 of the 140 MW Tanahu Hydropower project. Around 400 workers stage a strike alleging the company of not implementing the agreement reached with the project for a long time. Ashish Shrestha, president of Sinohydro Workers Union, said that the workers have not participated in the construction work since February 27.
Secretary of the Committee Kush Bahadur Thapa informed that the non-implemented demands are of increasing the salary at the rate of 10 percent per annum, provision of provident fund, risk allowance and others. Tulasi Prasad Sapkota, deputy director of the project, said that a team is being formed to resolve the dispute through talks.
