75-year-old Sonabati Devi of Manara Siswa Municipality-7, Sarpalo was beaten by her own daughter-in-law Gina Baitha on April 11 alleging of being involved in witchcraft practices. However, a few days back, her son and daughter-in-law had lodged a case at the District Police Office, Mahottari, alleging that Sonawati was beaten by the locals.
The incident came to light after a video of the assault went viral. According to the footage, Gina was seen beating her mother-in-law on the street. In the video, Gina and her husband Upendra are seen shouting. However, Upendra registered a case against the locals Ramsulinder Baitha, Jibo Devi alias Jivu, Ramjinis Baitha and Kunti Devi.
