Municipality employees of Dakneshwar are on strike against the assault of their colleague Bir Bahadur Lehra, a 30-year-old field officer working in Dakneshwari Municipality.
The Municipality employees have issued a joint statement on June 4 accusing them of beating and giving death threats, demanding action against the accused. They announced to keep the office closed till the peace and security of the employees are guaranteed.
A group of 20 people including Ram Sagar Mandal of Dakneshwari Municipality-6 and Ram Avtar Yadav alias Bhaltu allegedly assaulted and mistreated Lehra accusing him of reaching an agreement with the disputed committee without consulting about the petition against the committee and without informing the mayor and the acting administrative officer. Earlier, the accused group had filed a petition at the Municipal Office against the one-sided formation of a committee for the construction of a hump pipe and culvert in Dakneshwari Municipality-6.
