Police arrested a 49-year-old Assistant Superintendent of Police  (ASI) Jitendra Narayan Mandal from Sunsari on the charge of repeatedly raping a 31-year-old girl. According to the police, he was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim's side alleging that he took the victim to a hotel behind the Gorkha Department Store in Itahari and raped her on April 10. The accused (ASI) surrendered to the police on July 27 after the district court in Sunsari issued an arrest warrant. The victim said that the ASI called her on July 18 and pressured her to settle the case by offering to pay Rs 50,000.
