Kathmandu, August 10
Police have detained six students of the Tribhuvan University following a demonstration in Kathmandu demanding the university halt the examinations until they get vaccines against Covid-19. Dozens of students had staged a demonstration outside the Padma Kanya Campus this afternoon, chanting slogans such as “no vaccine, no exam.”
SSP Ashok Singh, the chief of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range, confirms the detention. The TU is currently holding several exams for master’s and bachelor’s level students and the Padma Kanya Campus has been assigned as the exam centre for 18 different colleges in different shifts.
As the National Examinations Board indefinitely postponed the grade XII examinations citing a directive of the Covid-19 Crisis Management Centre, there are demands that the biggest university also follows suit. However, the university has clarified it will not halt any exams with the schedules already published and all preparations are done.
