Province 1, Morang, Biratnagar
The Citizenship Victims Struggle Committee was formed after the children were denied citizenship despite the fact that their parents had been granted citizenship based on their birth certificates. The committee staged a demonstration in Biratnagar demanding citizenship. In Biratnagar, the children of over 3,500 parents who obtained citizenship based on birth certificates claim that they did not receive citizenship.
They demonstrated in front of the Morang District Administration Office on August 29, claiming that they would remain stateless if the citizenship bill currently under consideration in parliament was not passed. Morang Chief District Officer Koshahari Niraula handed over a memorandum following the protest. The memorandum also demanded that the Citizenship Bill be passed immediately.
