Sanitation activists staged a symbolic demonstration in Ratnapark on August 31 by carrying brooms as a part of their protest against the city’s failure to collect waste for the past two weeks. About 50 people gathered from Ratna Park to Thamel to collect garbage. Activist Sushila Maharjan said that the collected garbage will be taken to Sisdol on foot. They demanded the government to close the dumping site at Sisdol as it is unorganized and to complete the construction site at Bancharedanda soon.
They carried placards with slogans such as 'Let's not disgrace the international community by stacking this beautiful valley'. Groups including World Sanitation Campaign, National Youth Council Nepal, Newa Lahana Socio-Economic Prosperity participated in the demonstration.
