Kathmandu, September 15
A woman has been reportedly assaulted on the charge of witchcraft within the capital city of Kathmandu recently. SSP Ashok Kumar Singh, the chief of the Metropolitan Police Range in Kathmandu, says four people have been arrested on the charge. The arrestees also include the survivor’s husband and a local shaman named Dipendra Kumar Thing. Two others are Dash Narayan Maharjan and Janardan Pandey. “We had received a report about the incident that took place nine days ago in Thulo Bharyang of Kathmandu,” SSP Singh says, “Further investigation is underway after remanding the suspects in custody for the next seven days.
It has been learned that the husband had taken the woman to shaman Thing for treatment after she reported stomachache, but the shaman accused her of being a witch. Following that, they resorted to an assault. Following the incident, the alleged survivor herself had gone to the nearby police station to file the complaint.
