The general youth movement stage a protest in Kathmandu on September 25 against the value-added tax (VAT) imposed on sanitary pads used by women during menstruation. They demanded that the government should provide free sanitary pads. They allege that taxes are levied on items that should be distributed free of cost to the people. During the demonstration, they also distributed free sanitary pads. Meanwhile, the government said that there is a misleading rumour that the tax on sanitary pads has been increased.
