Five active unions of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) staged a demonstration with various demands barring the CEO of the company from entering the office until 2 p.m. Kathmandu Upatyaka Khaney Pani Limited Staff Union, Kathmandu Upatyaka Khaney Pani Limited Staff Organization, Kathmandu Upatyaka Khaney Pani Limited Unified Independent Employees Union, Kathmandu Upatyaka Khaney Pani Limited Staff Welfare Council, and Kathmandu Upatyaka Khaney Pani Limited Democratic Employees Union are the five active unions protesting. On a daily basis, they have been staging a sit-in on the outskirts of the office.
The employees demanded that the tariff rate be revised after Melamchi's water service begins as decided by the company's sixth annual general meeting. They also demanded that all shareholders file their share capital, provide online services to customers, and review the lease agreement between the Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Board and the company. The demands, according to Om Dhakal, vice-chairperson of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khaney Pani Limited Staff organization, are to issue an IPO, hold an annual general meeting, and appoint an independent operator.
