Majhi community, under the leadership of Majhi Utthan Sangh, staged a demonstration in Ramechhap district headquarters Manthali, demanding to scrap the Sunkoshi II project with reservoir. The protestors demonstrated in different areas stating that the Sunkoshi-II Project should not be implemented because it is related to the Majhi's identity and while constructing projects including dam on Sunkoshi river, the culture, identity and the community of the indigenous Majhi community could be erased. According to Rita Majhi, Bagmati provice assemblies, MP, the government could not buy the culture and ethnic identity in money which is connected to the Sunkoshi and they will not let the government implement the Sunkoshi 2 project. The Department of Power Development constructed a high dam on the Sunkoshi River flowing between Sindhuli and Ramechhap and has put forward a project with a capacity of 978 MW.
