After Hakiwa Miya, of Narsingh Municipality-5, committed suicide by hanging in the district police office Sunsari, locals vandalized the vehicles and shut down the market in Inaruwa. Protesters also burned tires in front of the district police station as part of their demonstration. Mohammad Hakim Sah of Bhokraha-5 was arrested on the charge of indecent treatment case. As a result of this incident, there was a clash between the police and Miya's relatives. During the clash, more than 12 people were injured, including police officers, and the police station's infrastructure was damaged.
After a group of people carrying sticks attacked the police, officers used tear gas to control the situation. Protesters also shut down the east-west highway. Miya's relatives claimed that Miya was murdered by the police because nobody could enter the custody premises. Relatives refused to accept the body, claiming that the detainee had been murdered on purpose by the police.
