2021-11-28

Bagmati, Kathmandu, Kirtipur

The temporary teachers of Tribhuvan University started a sit-in at the Vice-Chancellor (VC) office on November 28. The sit-in was conducted mainly by Professors Organization close to Nepali Congress. The teachers coming from affiliated campuses throughout the country collectively organized the sit-in demanding automatic promotion of temporary teachers to permanent status or by opening the special vacancy for the teachers on the temporary status.

The senate meeting of TU is called for November 30. The meeting venue is shifted to Prime Minister's residence Baluwatar after the ongoing protest at VC office. The protestors have stated that they will continue the sit-in until their demands are fulfilled.

The chairperson of Professor's organization, close to Nepali Congress, Jagat Timilsina has created pressure on the Prime Minister to fulfill the demands of temporary teachers. The PM who is also the chancellor of the university also pressurized to keep the agenda about temporary teachers in the senate meeting.

As per the sources, all three representatives of TU in the senate are against making the temporary teachers permanent without going through any process. The representatives blamed for including the agenda of temporary teachers randomly in the meeting that mainly focused on passing the annual budget and program. They have suggested that making the teachers permanent will add the financial burden worth crores to the Tribhuvan University.

As per the sources, approximately 2,200 temporary teachers have demanded for making their status permanent automatically. Meanwhile, the president of ANNFSU Sunita Baral said that they will protest if any such decisions would be made to make the teachers permanent without TU service commission exams.
