Child development teachers and school staff working in community schools under Janakpurdham Sub-metropolis staged a sit-in in front of the sub-metropolis on December 23.  They have been agitating since December 22 saying that Mayor Lal Kishor Sah has not listened to their demands. The Child Development Teachers and School Staff Joint Struggle Committee issued a statement stating that the sit-in program will continue on December 24 too.

The federal government had announced to increase the salaries of child development teachers and school staff with effect from last July through the budget brought in last June. According to the government's decision, most of the local levels including Ganeshman Charnath Municipality, Sabaila Municipality, Dhanushadham Municipality and Laxminiya Village Municipality of Dhanusha have already distributed salaries.

However, Janakpurdham sub-metropolitan teacher Sanju Yadav said that the agitation had to start after the child development teachers and school staff were seen as intolerant. Saying that the situation where child development teachers have to pay Rs 6,000 per month should end, the agitation will continue till the government's decision is implemented, said Yadav, co-coordinator of the struggle committee. They also demanded that the monthly salary of an accountant should be 18,500 and that of a child development teacher and office assistant should be 15,000. They warned to move ahead with the phased movement programs until the demand is met. There are 149 child development teachers working in 51 community schools within the Janakpurdham sub-metropolis.
