DHANKUTA: Police have arrested a youth from Dhankuta Municipality-9, Chimsuwa on charges of raping a girl. Gopi Basnet alias Saroj, 20, who had absconded after raping a 10-year-old local girl on September 25, 2021 was arrested on Friday, police said.

He was arrested by the police from the Nepal-India border area. It is said that Basnet raped the girl while she was herding and fled after the victim lodged a complaint. According to Police Spokesperson DSP Suraj Karki, the accused was arrested while he was hiding in the border area. Accused Basnet has been booked for rape and his term has been extended in the district court. Police said that they have started further investigation into the incident.
