Police fired dozens of warning shots and tear gas after locals obstructed transport service in Mirchaiya protesting against alleged police torture of a woman in custody. Police had detained Jibachhidevi Sah Haluwai, the daughter-in-law of 62-year-old Gubadidevi Sah Haluwai of Mirchaiya Municipality-1, Rampur Birta in connection with the investigation into the murder of the later. Jibachhidevi Sah was allegedly physically assaulted by police and treated inhumanely while in the custody. Angry locals staged a protest by blocking transport service along East-West highway and chanted slogans against the police. They demanded punishment against the officials responsible for the torture. Police fired dozens of rounds of tear gas to break the disperse the protestors. Half dozen police sustained injury in the clash. Gubadidevi was found on dead on October 1.
