Protestors clash with police in Biratnagar

Group opposed to the naming of Koshi province was involved in a clash with the police in Biratnagar.

The police used tear gas and batons to control the joint demonstration organized by various organizations supporting identity based federalism.

Protesters also threw stones at the police, causing injuries. Supporters of ethnic identity have been continuously protesting against the opposition to the state's name being changed to Koshi. In the course of the protest, Padam Limbu was injured on March 19 and March 24.

On Tuesday, when the protesters went to the Chief Minister's office, the police had barricaded it. A clash ensued between the police and the demonstrators.

The protesters also broke coffee cups and smashed windows of the Hotel Big, which is located near the Chief Minister's office


At least fifteen people were injured during the clash.
